Clinical Data Migration โ 5,000+ US Clinics
Led a critical cloud-to-on-premise migration of patient data from over 5,000 US clinics, driven by HIPAA compliance requirements and escalating VMware licensing costs.
data loss across millions of sensitive patient records
The Challenge
A healthcare technology company supporting over 5,000 US clinics faced a critical infrastructure decision: their patient data was hosted on AWS, but escalating VMware licensing costs and HIPAA compliance requirements were creating compounding operational risk. Moving to on-premise infrastructure was counterintuitive โ but it was the right call.
Our Approach
We designed and deployed a Proxmox 8.3 VE environment on HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 servers, creating a robust, HIPAA-compliant on-premise infrastructure. The migration involved handling complex vmdk, RAW, and qcow2 workloads with zero tolerance for data loss. A critical domain controller codependency required integrating new Windows Server 2019 DCs with the client's existing Windows Server 2008 R2 infrastructure โ leveraging backward compatibility to maintain continuous operations throughout the transition.
The Outcome
Zero data loss across millions of sensitive patient records spanning 5,000+ clinics. The client achieved full HIPAA compliance posture, eliminated VMware licensing costs, and gained complete control over their data sovereignty. The new infrastructure runs at a fraction of the previous cloud operating expenditure.
